Common Badminton Rules Misunderstood

Like any game that is played regularly and in backyards across the country, badminton is one where there are a few rules of game play that are commonly misunderstood. In these situations, it is helpful to know what the official rules of play are so that the game is always played as fairly as possible.

One of the most common quarrels during a game of badminton is what happens if the birdie touches the net before going over. Some people would believe that this does not count or that the receiving side gets a point. That is not true. The birdie is allowed to touch the net so long as it goes over the net. If it touches the net and falls to the ground, that is a point.

Another rule happens when the teams each have scores that are very close, such as 14 to 15. Since 15 is the winning number, you would think that that team wins. The rules of badminton state, though, that a team has to win by 2 points!
